Do you feel healthy?
It’s a simple question that evokes so many different responses & emotions…
But whether you answered in the affirmative or negative, health in all it’s forms (phsyical, mental, emotional & more!) is a crucial piece of being a successful woman… it affects everything:
-productivity + focus
-confidence + relationships
-anxiety + stress
So, I am simplifying some of it today with 4 health questions every go-getter girl should be asking herself on the regular… (I like to review mine every Sunday afternoon, to reset for the rest of the week!)
Here’s the four BIG reflection questions I run through…
(The first two are to wrap up the week behind me and the second half are to prepare well for the week ahead!)
A lot of times (too often, IMO) as women, we equate health with our appearance or our weight.
As in: “if I LOOK healthy, than I must be healthy…”
But that is far from the truth. True wellness has so many pieces to the puzzle and every week, I sit down and ask myself how my wellness is tracking in all 6 of the life pieces I track:
There’s no doubt about it, in certain seasons of your life, staying healthy and happy will be easier than others.
And often, too lofty of wellness goals mashed up with a busy season of life leaves a feeling of “failure” because it’s too stressful to balance that much at once.
Trying to bite off bigger health changes than you can chew at once leaves a bitter taste towards getting healthy at all.Trying to bite off bigger health changes than you can chew at once leaves a bitter taste towards getting healthy at all. Click To Tweet
So? You have to make sure the system of wellness– eating, exercising, and more– fits the season of life you are in in order to actually accomplish your goals!
The other piece of seasonal health is in the more literal sense… not often spoken about, but ALL of the components of our health should shift with the seasons & it’s a core pillar of my nourishment philosophy and a HUGE piece of what I cover in the Nourishment Mastermind (oh, yeah… the fall applications for it JUST opened!)
That means the amount of sleep, the different foods, the intensity of our exercise, & even the amount of light we expose our eyes to everyday should naturally shift with the seasons.
If you don’t sync your wellness to the seasons, I don’t think it’s gonna kill ya, buuuut… you might feel leaps and bounds better if you did!
Plus, there’s a lot of joy of coming back ‘round to summer and feeling the first dribble of a true peach sliding down your grinning chin or sticking a fork into that perfectly-roasted-until-golden sweet potato on the crisp first few days of fall! Variety really is the spice of life!
No shame here because as women, we’ve got to juggle a lot of roles… mothers, daughters, students, friends.
When you look at it that way, give yourself some grace because you, lady, are doing a whole lot!
But, there’s no faster road to burnout (& not being able to show up 100% for all those roles) than not taking good care of your body & mind. Scientifically proven.
So I encourage you to ask “How can I make my wellness a priority this week?” instead of “am I making my health a priority?”
There’s a subtle shift in language, but the former immediately opens avenues of positive possibilities while the latter is pretty straightforward evaluation.
“How?” is a magical question in neuroscience… your brain’s superpower is problem solving and as soon as you change your question-asking to include that potent opening syllable, it gets to work on finding a solution… no matter how small or crazy-sounding! It’s a way faster road to change than asking “why am I not making this change or making this a priority? Try it!

Two of my favorite mentors have taught me about this question.
The first, Michael Hyatt, is one of my go-to’s when it comes to goal setting for my year around January and speaks into the danger of having too many to-do’s at once…
Too many goals diffuses our energy and exponentially decreases the likelihood we’ll accomplish any of them…
So, the key is to focus on incremental changes one at a time, solidifying good habits before moving onto the next.
But what should you focus on, then?
Ever since I rushed home from school starting in second grade, throwing off my backpack and sprinting into the den to flip on the TV and adjust the rabbit ears, Oprah Winfrey’s elegantly simple question has always helped clarify and sift through any overwhelm I’m facing:
“Get still and ask yourself… What is the next best step?”
Your heart knows what it needs next, my dear.
I hope these questions help you start each week fresh and renewed–body, mind, & soul– for a productive, joy-filled week ahead.
