What exactly is “neuronutrition”?
I can’t tell you how many cocked heads and quizzical looks I envision when I see that question slide into my IG DM’s on the regular.
No doubt about it… is a new name on the health & wellness block. (So if you haven’t heard of it before, you’re not alone!)
And honestly, when I first started studying nutrition and psychology at university, I never thought those 2 majors would come together.
But turns out… they actually marry in beautiful academic synchronicity because the further I dug into the research, the more I realized how sensitive our brain and moods were based on how we were eating + caring for our bodies.
Now, I get to serve creative, driven ladies as a neuronutrition guide, helping them eat delicious food and hone their wellness habits to get more out of their days…
And I want to share! So read on to discover:

So what is neuronutrition? Well, there’s a lot of conflicting, confusing nutrition and health information out there floating around. Social media, search engine results (hello: Dr. Google), & scary nightly news flashes that skew new health research in order to sensationalize it all…
Not to mention confuse everyone in the process!
But neuronutrition has a straightforward goal. (No hidden agenda! Pinky promise.)
Simply put, it’s optimizing your nutrition + wellness for a healthy brain, not just body. So you can have more mental energy and joy to do good work, be present + loving in your relationships, and build a successful, vibrant life.

Because your brain controls everything else, including your habits: your motivation to workout, your hunger levels, your hormones, and more.
And the beauty of neuronutrition? The same habits and foods that are healthy for the brain have a powerful effect on getting you a balanced, energetic, weight-stable body without the struggle.
When you get the brain right, the body falls into place.
Because there’s nothing more important to your body & life than having a calm, focused brain at your disposal. It makes you happier, able to be more productive in less time, and more effective at everything you do.

So it’s time to stop focusing on the diet fads and forcing yourself to follow healthy habits. It’s time to start harnessing an ace your forgetting in your back pocket:

Yep, exactly what it sounds like– feeding a super healthy brain. A cutting edge field that can give you the winning edge in terms of more focus, mental energy, and better moods.
Brains are sensitive little organs and need to be well hydrated to function (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22855911). But lest you think it’s all about drinking more water, I’m sorry to say that the best research we’ve got proves that chugging your Camelback isn’t enough. And the 8 glasses a day rule? How about the whole “coffee dehydrates you!” claim? Nope, those aren’t true either…optimal hydration now includes eating water-rich foods and moving, so those cells can actually soak up the water! (oh, that cheeky, sneaky media promoting such falsehoods!)
I know what you’re thinking right now: “Ugh, I already know I don’t get enough sleep… you don’t have to rub it in.” But a gentle reminder: sleep is crucial for happiness, memory, and creativity. And unknowingly, most of us these days are sleeping wrong… not in just how much sleep we are getting (because let’s face it, for most of us, it’s never enough), but in HOW we’re sleeping for brain health.
Everyone’s heard “exercise releases endorphins.” But that’s not the whole story and honestly, brain health doesn’t require training for a marathon or even time on the treadmill. Regular, seasonal movement helps your brain grow, make new connections, and regulate your mood in other ways, too! Even small steps add up!
Fun fact: take all the blood vessels out of your brain and line them all up? They’d stretch end to end over 100,000 miles- a distance that would wrap around the equator over 4 times! And movement is big part of what keeps those miles and miles of vessels healthy.

It’s a complex system, but simple when you start to learn how to take care of it one step at a time!
Maybe you’ve heard it before tumbling out my mouth, but I’ll say it again:

Hopefully, you’re getting the gist and starting to see how important taking care of your wellness is starting with brain-focused nutrition!
